First, the Doctor Who in the U.S. special was really, really great. And not just because I got a dose of David Tennant and his Scottish accent. It's always really strange to me when the actors say they are surprised that they get a big response when they come to America...Doctor Who is the best thing on TV here, and we watch a lot of TV. Oh, God, yes, they replayed Matt asking for "tea, the strong stuff, leave the bag in"! Loved that! Wait, Karen Gillan is afraid of horses? Again, why are they surprised at the "warm welcome"? We can recognize greatness when we see it! Really, really awesome special.
The actual review:
- I am so not emotionally ready for this! Oh, God, here we go!
- Wow, they're just jumping right into it with a wonderful opening and very nice cinematography. I like this typewriter/narration thing.
- Ah, yes, here they are! Oh, this is scary already! Holy shit! The Statue of Liberty is a Weeping Angel! Hahahahahaha! This is epic and funny at the same time.
- Oh, this is a cute scene! Ouch, he called her eyes line-y! I like that he rips out the last page and hates endings...very fitting.
- Whoa, whoa, whoa! April 3rd 1938? With River?
- Must watch Spies of Warsaw! It has David Tennant in it! Aaaaah!
- HOLY SHIT THAT WAS RORY'S TOMBSTONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! This better not happen!
- What a cute interaction between the Doctor and River...love it!
- Oh, shit...Amy's going to die? No, no, no one can die! Oh, ah, this is a hell of an episode!
- Shit, she really did break her wrist! Aw, him fixing it and then kissing it was the sweetest thing ever! Aw! And then she storms out...
- Oh, my God, is that old Rory? Oh, God...oh, dear God.
- If that noise is the Statue of Liberty...oh, yes, please create the paradox. "I won't let them take him, that's what we got." Amelia Pond, you are a bad ass.
- Oh dear God! The Statue of Liberty is right freaking there. Oh, wow...this is so epic.
- NO! Rory if you jump, so help me God...Oh, dear God....I can barely breathe through the lump in my throat right now. Oh, this is beautiful! Are they going to jump together? I hope so, that'd wonderful...and the tears have begun to flow. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! They did it! They actually did it! This music is perfection! Oh, my God, the greatest moment in televised history is occurring right now!
- AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! It actually worked! Dammit, Karen Gillan is wearing the ugly gothic makeup again.
- Ah, yes, triumphal swelling music.
- Rory...no, don't look!
- Oh, dear God, no! Amy, no! No, wait, yes! I don't know what I want! No, Amy, don't upset the Doctor! Oh, he's begging! Amy, you can't do this!
- Oh, God, the Doctor's pain is more wrenching that anyone else's, it just is. I am so tempted to drown in my tear-soaked cup of Earl Grey right now.
- The last page! Oh, my God, this is the most emotional episode of television I have ever seen. Ah, poor Doctor! Why?! WHY?!
- "And this is how it ends!" NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I can't even think I am so overwhelmed with emotion right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
This was by far the greatest thing to ever grace the screen. Ever. That is all.
